How to prevent bad breath is something that preoccupies most people as bad breath is very unappealing. There are a variety of factors which can trigger bad breath, but with a little bit of care, bad breath can be avoided. No one likes having or smelling someones bad breath so try your best to maintain your breath fresh and pleasant.

There are a variety of triggering factors for bad breath or halitosis, but most commonly bad breath is related to oral hygiene. Our mouth is a perfect environment for bacteria to develop, this is why so many products have been created for oral care. Not paying attention to dental care and oral hygiene can aid the development of certain bacterias which release an unpleasant smell from the oral cavity. Brushing, flossing, tongue scraping and mouth washing can help remove the odor causing bacteria or prevent it from thriving. The bacteria can grow rapidly if the right environment is provided and the more bacteria the more powerful the sulfur smell will be.
Your diet can also influence bad breath as certain ingredients like onions, garlic have a very pungent smell. Fortunately the odor cause by your diet can also be eliminated by avoiding eating certain ingredients.

Combating and preventing bad breath can be a very easy task. Following a few simple steps on a daily basis can leave your breath feeling fresh and your smile looking brighter.

  • brushing your teeth in the morning, before bedtime and after every meal can help you prevent dental problems as well as improve the quality of your breath. Brushing your teeth will help remove any food particles which can get stuck between your teeth and start to decay leading to increased bacteria, bad breath and possibly cavity development

  • flossing at least once a day is absolutely necessary as the tooth brush cannot penetrate the tight gaps between the teeth. The floss will be able to remove all the buildup between your teeth helping prevent the development of plaque and bacteria. Combined tooth brushing and flossing create a powerful weapon against dental problems and bad breath

  • tongue scraping can help you remove bacteria which covers your tongue and which can aid halitosis. The bacteria which causes bad breath doesn't cover only your teeth but your entire mouth as well

  • use a mouth rinse after brushing and flossing as it will help kill any remaining bacteria in the mouth and help refresh your breath

  • maintain your mouth hydrated to avoid bacteria growth. A dry mouth is a perfect environment for the bacteria to thrive in and your breath will be very unpleasant

  • try to avoid eating foods which will aid bad breath, such as garlic, whenever you know you have a meeting. The smell of these ingredients will persist even after cleaning your mouth as the smell comes from your stomach not your mouth


  • Some people believe that by breathing in their hand they can check their breath but this is actually not going to work. A person can get used to their scent making it difficult to detect their own bad breath. The best way to prevent bad breath is by following a daily mouth cleansing routine. You teeth will be healthier and your breath will no longer pose an embarrassment.
